New Season of Celebrity Rehab Might Not Happen

It's easy to get cynical. I mean, there are just so many awful things in the world and if you focus on those awful things it just seems like nothing is going right.

But then, every so often, something happens (or doesn't happen) that goes a long way toward restoring my faith in humanity. Case in point: the odious "Dr." Drew Pinsky can't find anyone willing to commit himself to a season of the reprehensible program "Celebrity Rehab."
Sources close to the production tell TMZ they have struck out left and right trying to find A, B, or even C-list celebs for the show. As we first reported, they had their eyes on Lindsay Lohan and Heather Locklear, to name a few, but were quickly shot down.

The show was able to get a tentative commitment from a few D and F-listers, but our sources say the network rejected them.

We're told there was a deadline last Friday to lock down the cast, but since they don't have ANYONE signed on ... the deadline was extended to Wednesday.
It's a small thing, I know, but it brought a smile to my face.

I'm sorry that you cannot understand Dr. Drew's only goal in life has been to help people understand the nature of addiction and the behavior of addicts. How dare he use the medium of reality television, something people actually pay attention to, and that D list celebs voluntarily go on to help further that message. How many D listers have to die in their 20s and 30s before you realize it might be something people need to learn about?

Anonymous: First of all, thanks for taking the time to post a response. I appreciate it, regardless of whether you agree with me.

Second: I can't tell if you're being ironic or not. Just in case, I'm going to post an ironic response:

My gosh you're right! Dr. Drew Pinsky isn't a shameless fame-seeking jackass who exploits others' weaknesses (drug addiction, fame addiction) for his own sadistic purposes. He's nothing like William Burroughs' Dr. Benway. He's a selfless human being.

I read that Tila Tequila allegedly signed on for Celebrity Rehab. She probably needs rehab, if her tweets are any indication, but she is the epitome of an F-List celeb so there is no way she is famous enough to keep the show on the air.

I just wonder if Dr. Drew is using his "piteous face" with the network executives, trying to keep the show on the air. The truth is that the show has become increasingly exploitative, to the point that it should be cancelled for the sake of decency.

Once they had ex-teen-beauty queen Kari Ann Peniche (who is not a celebrity by anyone's standards) on not one, not two, but THREE celebrity rehab shows (Sex Rehab, Celebrity Rehab, Sober House) - even though she was kicked off every single show for horrendously bad behavior which is undoubtedly based in an actual real-life mental illness, for which she received zero treatment - the show jumped the shark in a very big way. It jumped into the proverbial shark's mouth when it showed Mike Starr's (Alice In Chains) psychotic break due to sudden withdrawal of methadone and heroin. That was exploitation at its very worst.

It has evolved into a very, very sick show.
