My poem for you

I knew
Not what to do

(You wouldn't give me a clue,
You're less scrutable than I'm used to)

So I threw
My shoe
At you.

When in doubt: comfort, reassure, listen without posing solutions, say, "everything will be all right, and we will get through this together." Do not throw shoes! The poem might be cute after the fact, but, if arguing, it will be seen as a sign of immaturity until after whatever blows over blows. My best to you & yours!
